reversible or irreversible Decisions

Know it. Use It.

Adeel. A

Like most in this line of work, for example coaches, mentors and gurus, I was also tempted to tow their line and parade my decades of global professional and personal experiences in order to validate my service to you as a prospective client. But then I gathered that you can already hear all that noise directly on my LinkedIn page.

However, you are here because you are facing a specific decision in your life pertaining to your self-hood, prosperity or relationships that might be seemingly life-altering, and for that, my story might be more important than my professional accolades.

I come from a humble background, without any set of silver spoons, but who happened to break a few ceilings, achieve financial freedom in life, become a global citizen, a husband to an incredible woman, and a father of two amazing children.

Was it luck or savvy decision making or both?

Background

While navigating my personal and professional life, from steering roles at Fortune 500 companies like Unilever and Philip Morris, to leading personal investments and mentoring across cultures, I was intrigued by the decision making paradox that individuals faced in their lives.

The magnitude of decisions doesn’t always correlate with their impact - a small decision can redirect life’s course, while a large decision sometimes has negligible consequences. Sometimes there were outstanding results for one decision made at a certain point in time, and catastrophic results for the same decision at another point in time.

What was happening? Why is there so much asymmetry in decision making, and is it good, bad or a bit of both. What could be done about it? I also noticed that decision making is a universal challenge, irrespective of a person’s origins, age, or aptitude.

Hence, all these questions, along with the universal challenge of ‘decision making’ led me to take a deep dive into the art and science of decision making. This included complementing my professional and personal experience with advanced study of the Neuropsychology Of Decision Making at University Of Cambridge and a professional certification in Psychology In Action from American Psychological Association.

When combined, it all yielded one interesting observation, that decisions are reversible or irreversible and that determines everything.
